Power from the Sea/Ocean Waves.
I have devised some unique and more efficient designs /concepts in harnessing Ocean Wave Energy. Ocean Waves contain substantial amount of Kinetic and Potential energy waiting to be harnessed for conversion Electricity, Desalination, etc. The energy from waves alone could supply all of mankind’s electricity needs many times over. Hundreds of wave energy converters have been designed and patented by scientists. Some have been tested – like The Salter’s Duck, Cockerell’s rafts, A few have been installed – like the Limpet Plant, Pelamis by world leader, Danish Wave Dragon, Mighty Whale, Wave Plane, Oceanlinx, Wavegen, CETO and some more, others have remained on the drawing board only. All these designs & concepts claimed to function better than most others. However, none have been found to be as efficient and as economical as desired. The absorption efficiency range vary from 25% to 65% and has the greatest impact on cost of energy. Ihave devised a totally new and more practical and more efficient concept named ‘The GUC’. ‘GUC’ is a envisaged to capture maximum energy from the ocean waves with hard to beat principles for extracting maximum energy content from ocean waves. Simple yet very, very effective approach in achieving maximum possible conversion ie: maximum efficiency in converting the wave energy to electricity. The potential along about 6000 Kms of Indian coast line is quite substantial, estimated to be around 40,000 MW. 20kW/m during monsoon and 5 to 10 kW/m non-monsoon periods.
Value Proposition
The ‘GUC’ is a unique and highly efficient design/concept, the purpose of which is not merely to convert the potential energy to electricity but to do so MOST EFFICIENTLY – THAT’S WHERE OTHERS FAIL AND THE REAL PROFIT IS IN THE MOST EFFICIENT WAY OF HARNESSING THE WAVE ENERGY. The efficiency of The GUC can be tuned to exceed 80% absorption efficiency. I offer the not yet patented ‘GUC’ concept & design, for harnessing and converting the immense energy contained in the ever rolling waves, in totality and also offer my expertise & services till the project is up and running. Detailed agreement on all norms including payments and obligations on either side to be properly entered into at appropriate stages. Long term partnership and other business terms to be discussed and generously and broadmindedly agreed upon by both sides. First and foremost it is necessary to interact with government agencies for procuring rights/license to use the sea-shore and off-shore coastal areas of the respective states. [ from West Bengal to Gujarat ] Secondly, manufacture prototypes and install them and run them for at least a year and study and note all the relevant factors, details, area and environment specific modifications required, incorporate necessary modifications then and there and proceed. This phase is a critical one – one which will decide the degree of success of the entire project. At the end of this phase, however, it is merely copy-produce the modules ……… Thirdly, Start manufacturing the ‘GUC’ modules and install them. There after it is maintenance and further improvements in design, material used, skill and overall efficiency.
Sales Strategy
The end product is power – electricity. The markets for this are : 1. The Power Grid. 2. Any Industry / industries 3. The Public – any town /village/s and 4. Any other area specific demand. Beginning with one Wave Farm consisting of 100 to 200 ‘GUC’ MODULES, this project would spread to the entire Indian coastal belt where energetic waves abound and further out into the sea where more energetic waves abound. For a comparison, Wave Power would be cheaper and more reliable than Wind Power. Unit starts earning from day one of commencemnt.
Competition
Strength: Unending and free energy from the ocean waves. While most inventions in harnessing Wave Energy use the Oscillating Water Column route which is nothing but pressurized AIR. And air is 900 time lighter than water. Whereas the ‘GUC’ DIRECTLY gobbles sea waves which are 900 time denser than the pressurized air used by some other technologies. Moreover the design is such as to absorb more than 80% of the wave. This greatly enhances the efficiency and brings down the cost of power production Weakness: Wave Power is less during non-monsoon periods Opportunities: Plenty. There is always a dearth of power in India. More & cheaper power means better quality of life and industrial expansion, more exports, etc. Threats: New conventional particularly nuclear power plants coming up are a competitor to reckon with.
